Berwick Street Market is an iconic part of London’s heritage and was established in the 1770s when shopkeepers displayed their wares on the pavements, and it quickly earned its reputation for selling a bewildering variety of fruit and vegetables. In the 1880s, Berwick Street was the first market in the UK where you could buy tomatoes and grapefruit. The freshest fruit and vegetables can still be brought at stalls on the street, from everyday lunchtime necessities like apples and bananas to the hottest chilli in the world, the Naga chilli. On weekdays Berwick Street Market is a must-visit for foodies, the street food market is constantly evolving and produces superstars for the culinary world such as Pizza Pilgrims, Freebird Burrito, Scotchtails, Savage Salads and Jerusalem Falafel. The market is open from the early morning and always fast paced and bustling, selling cakes, street food, artisan bread, fresh flowers and more.
