American Dennis Severs has put together an exhibition that feels almost alive as you walk through it. Each room in the old house shows a different time period between 1724 and 1914, but the real trick here is the way the rooms are presented. They look lived in, from the personal objects scattered throughout the room, to the scented candles still burning and the other smells and sounds you pick up as you go through the rooms. The tours are silent, allowing you to take in everything the house has to offer. It gives you a rounded view of life between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries and the feeling that you’ve just taken a trip back in time, almost like you’re intruding into another world. Eye-opening to the point of unsettling, it’s a unique experience.
