London Rebetiko Carnival 2016 presents Dimitris Mystakidis in Esperanto: The Rebetika of the guitar
Dimitris Mystakidis is a guitar virtuoso performing popular Rebetika songs, he covers the entire spectrum of the history of the popular music that flourished in Greece’s urban areas. In his highly acclaimed latest album, “Esperanto”, he proves that Rebetiko is a universal language that never loses its identity, and that on the frets of the Greek folk guitar performances by various established Greek artists find a common language.
Mystakidis is widely established as probably the best and most influential Greek folk guitar player. He is well known from his collaboration with many Greek artists, most notably, Nikos Papazoglou and Thanasis Papakonstantinou. He also teaches folk guitar and lute at the department of Popular and Folk Music of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus since 2001, and at the postgraduate course of the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia, since 2014.
In his performance for Rebetiko Carnival, he will be accompanied by Dimitris Papas and Giorgos Tsalampounis on guitars and vocals.
