With books on the decline in the face of e-readers, book shops are fighting against the current. Foyles, the independent book retailer is standing strong however, with a humungous selection of books spread over five floors encompassing 56 specialised sections. It’s a comprehensive coverage of every genre of book, from teen-fantasy fiction to educational to the adult. Within the store are smaller department outlets, such as a cafe, Ray’s Jazz and Grant & Cutler, the UK’s largest foreign language retailer. As you may have hoped with a store of this size, there are regular literary events held with Jim Crace, Susannah Calahan and Billy Bragg. It’s Europe’s largest bookstore and well worth a look in.
