This cinema was originally built as a theatre in 1898. However, the competition from theatres in the West End proved too much and in 1923 it became a full-time cinema. The original interior still remains today, so this is a cinema with a difference. It is now owned by Kensington Temple, a church congregation. However the cinema still shows mainstream movies without any censorship or Christian slant. Brokeback Mountain was viewed here on its opening night by David Cameron, for example.
