Trading since 1976, Rough Trade has spent three decades as one of London’s most varied stores for buying music. Rough Trade East opened in 2007 as their flagship 5000 square foot store, geared up for music lovers with tonnes of genres to choose from, books to buy, a cafe to relax in and ample room for live gigs on a purpose-built stage. The range of music is staggering, with all kinds of formats and genres from the classical vinyls to Japanese robot-pop on CDs. The gigs are around 7pm and require a wrist-band to enter, and the wrist band is free! This does mean that the bigger bands (and they do get big – Muse, Foals, Sonic Youth) will have long queues, but if you’re dedicated you can see some great bands perform short sets after you shop and have a coffee – sounds like a music-lover’s dream.
