Founded in 1983 with the mission to preserve the heritage and history of the industries and people of River Wandle. The once industrial River Wandle flows through the London Boroughs of Croydon, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth, it no longer is used to power buildings. However, this river is now a place of leisure and place to relax.
In the museum you will find displays showing the history of the River Wandle and the industries that used the river’s power. A large display “Lost Mills of the Wandle” shows the variety of industries that were to be found along the Wandle. Everything from the early mills that were flour mills to mills still working in the 20th century.
